Sorry I have been out of touch for a few weeks. Allow me to explain.... :-)
I have been doing all things PTO, along with running my commercial real estate company, along with being a dad, a husband, and a family member.
Why should you care? We are all busy.
I was at church with my girls on Sunday, and the topic came up of "practicing what you preach." Obviously, we all know the importance of practicing what we preach in our families, and with our PTO Tribe. We are constantly asking our parents to do things, our students to do things, and our faculty to help with things. But are you, as a leader, practicing what you preach. And is practicing what you preach enough?
My answer is "no." A long time ago, one of my mentors taught me about a concept called LBEEE (pronounced L, B, Triple E). The acronym stands for Leadership By Example With The Energy For Excellence. It's important to SHOW our families that we are doing the things we are asking of them. We are collecting the Boxtops, we are scanning our receipts in Shoparoo, we are MAKING time to do ALL of the things we are requesting of them.So that takes care of the Leadereship By Example, but what about the "With The Energy for Excellence" part?
A few weeks ago, someone shared a post on my timeline about how miserable he was counting Boxtops. Miserable because people turned in expired ones, and miserable because at $0.10 each it wasn't worth the time. My response to that post? "Too bad he isn't at our school. Our families are the BEST at turning in Boxtops and I have a victory party every time I bring that box home."I overheard a PTO Leader that I work with from a different school say "The job would be great if not for the parents." Zig Ziglar said a long time ago that "Your attitude determines your altitude in life." It is not enough to simply DO what we ask other to do, but we should strive to do it enthusiastically. Some parents think I am a little crazy, but that's ok.
Let's strive to be leaders this week and really ENTHUSIASTICALLY show people how much we LOVE being part of this great organization and everything that goes with it. If you are reading this post and saying "I am just not excited about PTO like that" GET EXCITED. Our groups do amazing things for families all over the country. What is more exciting than that?
I appreciate everyone who has signed up for our emails. If you haven't yet, please click the link below. We are going to try to continue to deliver a TON of value every week.
